Too Much Pressure

Honestly think about the time you spend inspecting a photo of yourself… Then think about the time you spend inspecting everyone else before you post something of them.

When we take and post a photo of others do we sit there and criticize them in it, edit them and add filters to “fix” them or do we just slap that bad-boy up for the world!? You know why it’s easy to post others? Because we are not as critical of our kids, friends and family as we are ourselves. We receive others in all their glory, while we can not see our own awesomeness.

I have attached a link below of a girl I have been following for years. (@saggysara) Her insight on our self image has helped me many times over and over on the journey to my own body and image acceptance. She points out how it’s natural for bodies to grow hair, have pimples, how they can be unflattering in different positions and be different shapes and sizes. She also points out how our bodies are impressive works of art that keep us alive and how your appearances are actually the least interesting thing about our bodies in the grand scheme of things!

Nobody is beating you down, like you! Nobody is sitting around talking about your lazy eye, double chin, uneven nostrils, wrinkles, grays…. And if they are… So what.. Are you still alive? Ultimately that’s the most important thing. Right?

I wrote this blog a month ago and this week the tickle tok came out with this “bold glammer” filter… Now, maybe I could look like this photo that is attached to this blog. If I knew how to use, buy and apply makeup. To look like this filter I might need some face altering surgeries.

This social norm of taking 85 photos before you like one is (1) Asking a lot of yourself to get a perfect photo every time. (2) A lot of pressure for the photo taker… Even worse if it’s a stranger you’ve asked and you make them try over. (3) Unrealistic.

Remember when we took photos and the poses, retakes and filters were not the forefront of the moment? Remember when we could snap a photo and carry on because it would need developing at a photo lab to be picked up hours or days later? Stop putting so much pressure on yourself and accept the things that make you, you.
